I started this little newsletter with a promise to myself that I’d only write as long as it feels like something I get to do rather than another thing I feel like I have to do. If it became a to-do list item, it was going to be a no for me, dawg.
So… hello & welcome back to

facetiming friends while making dinner
Believe it or not, this is a pre-pandemic personal pastime. Usually I take these calls with my long-distance-bestie, Jessica, who goes into panicked shock whenever she sees me pull out the mandolin. This is a nice way to catch up and have someone to talk to while whipping up some pasta. This is best accomplished if you have a little phone stand (I use this one) and some headphones. Jessica is a big fan of the newsletter (she has no choice) and has begun making some pretty unhinged requests. I’ll post about my Monday Pasta Sauce™ soon enough, Jess.
the way i stop dead in my tracks when this lady gaga video shows up in my feed
It usually inspires me to visit my actual favorite video. I watch this one when I need to cry. You don’t have to feel like a queen all of the time.
hanging out
I love hanging out, and have been doing a lot of it lately. It’s been a temporary cure for some of the worst moments of the past few months. It takes a lot of shapes and sizes, like laying on the couch with friends in complete silence while scrolling, doing little friend errands, finding an excuse to cross paths, long walks, or the good old fashioned dinner date. Big moments and structured plans and fun parties will always hold space in my heart, but nothing beats just… hanging out.
doing the things i get to do
Really, it’s nice when you think about it that way.
Careful with that mandolin 🙂
